Tropical Storm Eugene Forms in the Pacific

The fifth named storm of the Pacific hurricane season formed Friday. Tropical storm Eugene developed over the open Pacific waters, west of Mexico.

As of Friday evening, Eugene was moving northwest at 8 miles per hour. The maximum winds were near 40 mph, and the minimum central pressure was 1006 mb.

The National Hurricane Center expects Tropical Storm Eugene to continue strengthening over the weekend and become a hurricane sometime Sunday.
