Updated October Outlook from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center

1 Oct 2022, 2:00 am

The majority of the nation is expected to see a mild month. That’s according to the latest 30 day outlook from the Climate Prediction Center covering October. Above normal temperatures are in the forecast from the Pacific Coast through the Plains and into the Southeast. The Middle Atlantic is the only area in the nation expected to see a cooler than average October.

Above average precipitation is forecast in the Middle Atlantic, mainly due to the ongoing rainfall from the leftovers of Hurricane Ian. Odds also favor wetter than normal weather around the Four Corners. Drier than normal conditions are anticipated across most of the Plains into Mississippi Valley and Gulf Coast. This isn’t good news for the ongoing drought in the Southwest and Plains.

The Climate Prediction Center notes that La Nina is still present across the Pacific and that the atmosphere and conditions in the tropical Pacific region support those observations. La Nina is expected to continue into early next year.
