Tropical Depression 20 Forms in the Atlantic

On Saturday afternoon, the National Hurricane Center started issuing advisories for Tropical Depression 20.  This tropical depression was located over the open waters of the central Atlantic Ocean, approximately 2,000 miles east of the Caribbean islands.  Wind speeds were sustained around 35 mph with a central storm pressure of 1005 millibars.  Tropical Depression 20 is moving west-northwest at about 9 mph.

Slow strengthening is expected through the rest of the weekend.  Tropical Depression 20 is forecast to become a tropical storm—likely named Teddy—by Sunday night.  A faster rate of strengthening is possible early next week, with hurricane conditions possible by Wednesday.
