Thursday Severe Weather Update

26 Apr 2018, 5:10 am

The severe weather risk will move into the Southeast today with areas like Atlanta, GA needing to be aware of the potential for strong to severe storms.  Here is the very latest.

Severe Outlook

A Marginal risk of severe weather means that “Isolated” severe storms will be possible.  This will not be a major severe weather outbreak for the region.  Isolated severe storms are in the forecast for Atlanta, Columbia and Charlotte.  If you live in these areas you will need to be prepared for severe storms.

Severe Weather Threats

The main severe weather risks will be large hail and damaging winds with a very low chance for tornadoes.  This means hail up to 1″ in diameter is possible and wind gusts over 60 mph could take place.

Forecast

Showers and storms will be moving through this region later this morning, but the highest chance for any severe thunderstorm development will likely be in the afternoon.
