Super Bowl Weather Plus Your Groundhog Day Forecast

2 Feb 2014, 11:05 am

What an exciting day for weather! Not only is it Groundhog Day, but the Super Bowl is tonight in East Rutherford, NJ (an outdoor stadium). We’ve had our hands full in the weather office, here’s an update:

Punxsutawney Phil scurried out of his burrow and saw his shadow this morning, which indicates 6 more weeks of winter. Personally, I’m a bit skeptical since local weather conditions were cold & overcast at the time. Maybe it was the light from all the television cameras that produced his shadow?

Either way, hopefully that extra bit of winter holds off long enough for the Super Bowl tonight! Our game-time forecasts show a window of clearing — just in time for kickoff — that should last through MOST of the game.

Cold rain moves in late this evening, followed by at least a few snow flurries. Travel for Monday morning doesn’t look spectacular.

It will be chilly for the game, but will any records be broken for Most Extreme Super Bowl Weather? Not likely, but it could happen. Here are a few of the most interesting weather records from past games:

Who are you cheering for tonight? I might just cheer for whoever invented nacho cheese. Share your thoughts (and your weather photos!) with us on Facebook: www.facebook.com/WeatherNation
