Severe Storms Blast Through Plains

23 Mar 2017, 11:18 pm

Severe storms delivered damaging winds and large hail to the western Plains Thursday evening. The upper Midwest wasn’t excluded from any action as severe storms produced hail larger than golf balls.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, a total of 72 wind and hail reports occurred Thursday.

In addition to the hail reports, there were many strong wind gusts in excess of 70 mph. This is partly due to the strong low level jet which accelerated the storms east at a rapid pace, some in excess of highway speed.

Below are numerous storm photos from viewers Thursday evening.

The severe threat extends eastward Friday and Saturday. Cities from Dallas to Little Rock need to be weather aware Friday. Main threats on Friday include damaging wind gusts, large hail and an isolated tornado.
