Last week, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center issued their 30 day forecast September. After a warm summer, many areas can expect a mild start to the first month of fall. Warmer than normal temperatures are predicted from the Northeast through the Northern Plains to the West Coast. Below average temperatures are possible along the Gulf of Mexico coastline.
The precipitation forecast calls for drier than average weather from High Plains to the West Coast. This will likely continue or worsen the drought conditions found in those areas. Wetter than normal weather is forecast from the Southern Plains through the Ohio Valley into the Northeast.
Neutral conditions are forecast in the Pacific Ocean, meaning no El Nino or La Nina is present. Model forecast and current global trends were the main driving factors in the September forecast
