Historic Flooding Underway in Houston, Texas

Flooding began yesterday and increased to historic levels overnight last night. Amid the heavy rainfall, it is safe to say that the city of Houston, TX is shut down for the rest of the day.

Here is what we know:

-44,157 without power in City of Houston due to the flooding and the number continues to increase

-All Bus, rail, and Metrolift services closed for the rest of the day.

-Flash Flood Watches and Warnings are ongoing in the area as rain continues to fall overwhelming much of the city.

We are also getting reports of I-10 at White Oak Bayou having water now overtopping the interstates.

Several rivers are at major flood stage which is flooding nearby neighborhoods and homes with a report of more than 1,000 homes already consumed by flood waters.

We are also getting reports of one fatality in North Houston potentially due to flooding. According to ABC 13 in Houston, a man was found submerged in an 18-wheeler. More details will be coming

The good news is the rain won’t be nearly as widespread tomorrow. The bad news is rain is still in the forecast for almost all of eastern Texas and western Louisiana as this very slow moving system will keep relentless moisture from the Gulf of Mexico streaming onshore, producing showers and or thunderstorms.

Here is a look at the forecasted rain through Thursday evening. Another 6-8 inches of rain possible depicted in purple from Houston west into San Antonio.
