Mother Nature contributed to this spooky image from Iowa on the eve of Halloween.

Taken in Fort Madison in far southeastern Iowa, this shot shows a cemetery shrouded in fog, creating (along with the black and white photo) an ominous Halloween-esque image on Friday morning, the day before Halloween. Fort Madison lies on the Iowa side of the Mississippi River, south of Burlington.

A shallow layer of fog developed on Friday morning, adding the spooky tint to the cemetery. This is an example of radiation fog, caused by cooling temperatures overnight that reach the dew point, or condensation, leading to the formation of fog that quickly dissipates with warming temperatures once the sun goes up.
