The NFL Post Season is almost over (I know, I know, I’m terribly sad as well and don’t want it to end!) and the championship games this coming Sunday are looking to be some of the most anticipated games in quite some time. We have four amazing teams meeting up in a “winner-take-all” to punch a ticket to the first cold, outdoor Super Bowl in MetLife Stadium in the NYC area on February second. We saw how the conditions were last weekend in the divisional games in New England and in Seattle, where Mother Nature brought about wind, rain, and chilly conditions. This weekend, conditions for the upcoming games look more favorable, for both the players and the fans sitting in the stands.
Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are flying over from Foxborough, MA to come to Colorado to take on Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in what is going to be one sweet game to watch! In the Denver area, we’ll be seeing ample amounts of sunshine with a high pressure system in place over the region.
Temperatures are normally in the mid 40s but look to get into the low 60s.
Couple that with a warm breeze out of the west at 10-20 mph, and you have some pretty good conditions to be doing some tailgating!
The winds will be picking up as the daytime hours progress but shouldn’t be too much of an issue for the passing game.
This is how it looked outside of the Mile High City on Saturday morning. There are crystal clear blue skies up above with the Rocky Mountains standing tall in the background.
The San Francisco 49ers will be coming up the west coast to head into Seattle to take on the Seahawks in a place that is known for having deafening sounds as their fans get real excited and loud during the game. CenturyLink Field, near the downtown Seattle area, shall be packed with tons of fans from the wee morning hours on Sunday, getting ready to do some tailgating and cheer as loud as possible!
This is how it looked from the University of Washington’s web cam on Saturday morning. There was foggy conditions around the Puget Sound area, but the skies started to get brighter as the daytime hours progressed.
Much of the western third of the country is under a big ridge of high pressure, as the jet stream is being pushed all the way up into western Canada.
Under the high pressure, the sky conditions shall be mainly sunny with little to no wind blowing around in some spots.
The average high temps for this time of year in Seattle are into the upper 40s, and around kick off time, they shall be just about in that same area. I can imagine many fans wearing a few light layers to make sure they stay warm during the daytime hours, especially as the sun begins to set towards the second half of the game.
Once Sunday night rolls around, we’ll know what two teams are going to the Super Bowl! Will there be snow, rain, cold or mild temps? We’ll keep an eye on the forecast and narrow down the model details as that very important game approaches!

The only issue I have with Weather Nation and it’s new partnership with Direct TV is that there is no “active” option where we can directly access the local dopplar radar like we could with the competition. IF Weather Nation would add this option in so that those of us who live in high-risk areas or rural areas could quickly and easily access the radar thru our Direct Tv remote and programming, then direct tv customers would probably stop fighting the change.
